In many ways, the Kessler reminded me of blowing into a Yamaha 62. The tone, however, is nothing like that of either Yamaha, or Selmer. The tonal color is dark, and very different than any other modern tenor I've ever played. High overtones are more like whistling through the sax than anything else. Last year I purchased a Selmer Mark VI low Bb baritone from 1957, and I am currently enjoying practising and playing on the horn. I own two Mark VI altos, one from 1961, the other from 1971. My altos are quite different in character, the oldest is characterised by having a more dark complex tone, and this has been my jazz alto for several decades.

I would not use toothpaste because it is slightly abrasive. Just use luke warm water with a SOFT toothbrush. Remember to clean your mouthpiece once a week or as needed.

The one I have right now says "Accent" on the bell. I have been told that it is Model 170.
